THERAPIES

At first our patients are examined by the Physiatrist - our Medical Director Dr. Goumas, in order to get the right diagnosis.

As he says, “A correct diagnosis is essential for every patient. Imaging and laboratory results do not make the diagnosis. The doctor should be able to clearly state to the patient the state of the condition!"

Clinical examination is followed in the Unit, and when necessary, a neurophysiological examination EMG and ULTRASOUND of the musculoskeletal system is performed.

Based on their diagnosis our patients are assessed in international rehabilitation evaluation scales. This is followed by an assessment from the rehabilitation team and Dr. Goumas, to choose the appropriate rehabilitation protocol of treatment.

AN HOLISTIC APPROACH WITH EVIDENCE-BASED MEDICINE IS APPLIED, BY SETTING HUMAN NEEDS AT THE CENTER OF THE TREATMENT - TREATING THE SYMPTOM AS WELL AS THE UNDERLYING CAUSATIVE FACTOR

Our therapies are based on the International Medical Literature and medical protocols that are aiming for:

  • CONTROL OF ACUTE AND CHRONIC INFLAMMATION

  • CONTROL OF PAIN

  • RESTORATION OF NORMAL RANGE OF MOTION

  • RESTORATION OF NORMAL MUSCLE TONE

  • MUSCULAR STRENGTHENING

  • RESTORATION OF NORMAL PHYSICAL ACTIVITY OF THE PATIENT

Central to these treatment protocols is the use of physical agents:

  • ESWT (Extra-corpuscular shockwave therapy)

  • MRS (Electromagnetic stimulation -3 TESLA)

  • TECAR (localized combined radio frequency)

  • K-LASERS USA (4 wavelength, 1-20.000 Hertz)

In each therapy, physical agents are combined with the irreplaceable, as Dr. Goumas describes, therapist’s hand. The therapist applies the traditional neuro-musculoskeletal physiotherapy, which is absolutely essential and is strictly performed on a one-on-one basis (therapist/patient).

When deemed necessary extra attention is given to intraarticular, intramuscular and perineural injections.

The main ingredients of these injections are natural elements of our bodies, such as collagen, hyaluronic acid, chondroitin, glucosamine, mannitol. More specifically, when treating disorders of the muscular tone and spasticity, botulinum toxin type A (Botox) is used.

These are all conducted under the guidance of musculoskeletal ultrasound and neurophysiological assessment.

Particular attention is given to diet and conditions like psychological stress, anxiety disorders and depression as they are closely related with the diseases we treat.

At the end of the rehabilitation protocols, the patients are re-assessed in the same international rehabilitation evaluation scales in order to establish scientific results that may be used in scientific research and publications.

For a long period of time patients attend a strict follow up program, during which, we ensure better compliance to the medical directions the patient is advised to get in by the end of their treatment.
