"LOOKING AT THE WHOLE FOREST, NOT JUST THE TREE…!"
A Physiatrist is treating medical conditions and diseases by addressing not only the symptom but the causative factor as well.
“The forest, not the tree”, human centered and personalized, as these are the characteristics of contemporary physical medicine.
This Medical speciality (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation) was established in the USA in the beginning of the 20th century and in Greece since 1974. It might be the “youngest” medical specialty but in practice, it is as old as Galenus.
Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, applies evidence-based medicine and utilizes ancient medical knowledge,
combined the latest medical technology. From ice therapy to the electro-magnetic Stimulator Tesla 3, shockwave therapy, TECAR localized radiofrequencies therapy, laser therapy and finally, the impressive robotics for gait (walking re-training).
Allowing patients to heal and return to their normal health,
using physical modalities and the minimal possible medical intervention.
WITHOUT UNNECESSARY SURGERY AND EXCESSIVE MEDICATION!
The physiatrist is in close collaboration with other doctors in order to accomplish his target: helping the patient restore their functional deficits, live well and be physically and mentally healthy.
To avoid going under unnecessary surgeries and medications which burden the family budget and overall state medical expenditure.
Therefore, although previously a patient may have followed other medical specialties, the Physician must be prioritized in the diagnosis to lead us to the treatment that is appropriate for each one of us.
